The essence of a synchronous reluctance motor is a type of synchronous motor with reluctance properties. Its operating principle is similar to that of a switched reluctance motor, and it has fundamental differences from traditional AC and DC motors. Synchronous reluctance motor follows the principle of magnetic flux always closing along the path of minimum magnetic resistance, and forms torque through the magnetic pull force generated by the magnetic resistance changes caused by the rotor at different positions. It has the advantages of simple structure, durability, high efficiency, wide speed range, and low cost.

The main advantage of synchronous reluctance motors is that there is no loss of cage rotor, as they allow for higher permanent torque compared to IM (induction motors) of the same size.
